Hall of Fame Start

Gary Mazzie created the Johnston High School Athletic Hall of Fame on June 17, 2011 with an induction of 138 athletes who had been recognized as All-State athletes by the Providence Journal. The school tradition was to honor these athletes with a "Hall of Fame Award" for their accomplishments. Gary was concerned that there were very few records of athletic achievements in the Athletic Office or on the computer database. He feared that these records would be more and more difficult to research as years went by. Thus, he scoured the Providence Journal archives for the names of All-State athletes from Johnston, many of them on microfiche, to prepare a list of hall of fame award winners. These athletes became the inaugural induction class of 2011. Following this initial induction, a committee was formed to consider nominations for inclusion in the hall of fame. Criteria have now been established for the election of student-athletes, coaches, and other support personnel. (Click Here)
