Kerry L. Murphy, one of Johnston High School’s art teachers, has been named the High School 2016 Outstanding Rhode Island Art Educator of the Year by the Rhode Island Art Education Association. Kerry has an outstanding background in art education and in the art community. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island, a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Rhode Island College and has been an art educator in Johnston since 1998. Kerry moved from Elementary Art to the High School in 2001. She teaches Foundation Courses (Art/Ceramics), Advanced Drawing, Advanced Painting, Art History I & II, Art Portfolio, and Two-Dimensional Art I, II, III, & IV. Kerry has been a fine arts co-chair at the high school since 2013 and also is an advisor for the Johnston High School Yearbook. In addition to her teaching experience, Kerry is the President of Gallery Night Providence, which supports the visual arts community in the city. She is a member of the National Art Education Association, the Rhode Island Art Education Association, Rhode Island State Council on the Arts -Arts Talk Participant, Rhode Island School of Design Teachers’ Lounge Participant and a National Gallery of Art/RI Foundation Fellow. This recognition is well deserved and we are proud of Kerry for all her accomplishments.
