Eligibility
School Event Eligibility
Participation in school activities and events is an important part of the JHS experience. Students must remain academically, behaviorally, and physically present in school to participate in or attend school-sponsored events outside the regular school day.
These requirements apply to students participating as members of a team, club, organization, or class – as well as students attending as spectators or guests.
Additional Requirements for Athletes
Students participating in athletics must be enrolled in a full schedule. Internships count as courses when determining whether a student has a full schedule.
Students with modified or partial schedules are not eligible to participate in athletics. They may be permitted to participate in other extracurricular activities or events at the discretion of the administration.
Student-athletes must also meet all applicable team, school, and Rhode Island Interscholastic League requirements.
Event-Specific Requirements
Meeting the general eligibility requirements does not automatically register a student for an event. Individual activities may also require:
- Advance ticket purchase
- Permission forms
- Guest approval
- Payment by an established deadline
- Attendance at a rehearsal or meeting
- Compliance with event-specific expectations
Additionally, students who purchase a ticket for an event and are later not eligible to attend will not automatically be refunded for the event.
Eligibility and JHS's Annual Graduation Ceremony
These requirements apply to school-sponsored events outside the regular school day, apart from graduation. They do not determine whether a student has completed the requirements for a diploma or is eligible to participate in commencement.
