Want a Head Start on College?

Each year, a small group of students is allowed to attend either CCRI or NEIT for their Early College programs. Students who are selected into these programs take their entire senior year at college, with regular check ins with their school counselors. Students who successfully complete either program graduate high school with a full year’s worth of college credits, at no cost to the student or family!

Running Start at the Community College of Rhode Island

CCRI’s Running Start program allows academically qualified high school seniors to attend the Community College of Rhode Island full-time during their senior year. Students take college courses while simultaneously earning credits toward high school graduation, giving them an opportunity to explore academic and career pathways, earn transferable college credits, and experience college-level learning. Interested students should speak with their school counselor during junior year to learn more about eligibility and the application process.

NEIT's Early College Program

New England Institute of Technology’s Early College Program allows eligible high school seniors to attend NEIT full-time while completing their senior year. Students can earn college and high school credits simultaneously, explore career-focused degree programs, and participate in hands-on learning experiences in NEIT’s labs and classrooms. Interested students should speak with their school counselor during junior year to learn more about eligibility and the application process.

Minimum Requirements Include

Students apply at both their host institution and with the JHS guidance department. Enrollment is limited and students who are accepted must meet our rigorous requirements

Attendance

Students must attend at least 90% of the school year in 10th and 11th grade.

Academics

Pass all their enrolled courses in the 11th grade.

GPA

Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 starting in 9th grade.

Discipline

Have no disciplinary incidents in 11th grade.
