The JHS Science Department is dedicated to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on experimentation, collaborative inquiry, and rigorous coursework, students are empowered to explore scientific concepts and solve real-world problems.

Welcome to the Science Department

    • Inquiry-Driven Learning: Engaging students through active laboratory research, scientific modeling, and evidence-based problem solving.

    • Interdisciplinary Thinking: Connecting Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences to demonstrate how modern scientific principles intersect with technology and daily life.

    • STEM & Career Readiness: Developing data analysis, technical skills, and logical reasoning to prepare students for college majors and modern technical careers.

    • Scientific Literacy: Equipping students to evaluate contemporary issues—such as climate science, biotechnology, and public health—as informed global citizens.

    • Advanced Placement: 75% assessments (tests, quizzes, labs and projects).  25% homework and classwork.
    • Honors:  75% assessments (tests, quizzes, labs and projects).  25% homework and classwork.
    • College Prep: 70% assessments (tests, quizzes, labs and projects). 30% homework and classwork.

    • Foundational Courses: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Science.

    • Advanced & College Credit: AP Science (Biology, Physics, Environmental Science) and dual enrollment.

    • Specialized Electives: Anatomy & Physiology, Forensics, Genetics, Environmental Science, Zoology, Microbiology/Immunology, Oceanography and EMT.
