Johnston Senior High School’s RIDE-approved Computer Science CTE Program prepares students for college, careers, and emerging opportunities in technology through a rigorous, hands-on sequence of coursework.

Using the CS4RI curriculum, students develop skills in computer programming, computational thinking, problem-solving, algorithms, data analysis, collaboration, and the responsible use of technology. As students progress through the program, they build increasingly advanced coding and computer science skills through courses including Computer Science Honors, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science A.

Students may also expand their technical knowledge through PLTW Cybersecurity, an elective that introduces network security, digital privacy, cyber threats, system vulnerabilities, and strategies used to protect information and technology systems.

Throughout the program, students participate in project-based learning, coding challenges, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world applications of computer science. The program is designed to prepare students for postsecondary study and careers in fields such as software development, cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, data science, engineering, and other technology-driven industries.
