Pre-Engineering (PLTW)
The Johnston High School Pre-Engineering Program, a RIDE-approved Career and Technical Education pathway utilizing the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, prepares students to become innovative problem-solvers and future engineers. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students explore engineering design, robotics, computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing, and emerging technologies while developing critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills. Students graduate prepared for college engineering programs, technical careers, industry certifications, apprenticeships, and high-demand STEM opportunities.

9th Grade: Engineering Essentials Honors
Engineering Essentials introduces the design process, problem-solving, and hands-on engineering through real-world PLTW challenges.
10th Grade: Introduction to Engineering Design
Introduction to Engineering Design Honors develops CAD, design, and problem-solving skills through hands-on PLTW engineering challenges.
11th Grade: Civil Engineering and Architecture
Civil Engineering & Architecture Honors explores building design, structural systems, and planning through hands-on PLTW projects.
12th Grade: Aerospace Engineering Honors
Aerospace Engineering Honors explores flight, propulsion, space systems, and aircraft design through hands-on PLTW engineering challenges.
